Rove Beetle
Euplectus signatus

The adult is a tiny rove beetle of damp leaf litter, moss, rotting wood, and spaces beneath bark. It prowls through tight microhabitats and feeds on very small arthropods, especially mites, springtails, and other soft-bodied prey. Its short wing covers leave much of the flexible abdomen exposed, a hallmark of rove beetles. When disturbed, it can tuck down, scuttle quickly, or raise the abdomen in a defensive display.
