Black House Spider
Badumna insignis
An adult often lives around windows, fences, tree bark, sheds, and house walls where insects pass near its retreat. It builds a dark, messy sheet web with a funnel-like hiding place and rushes out when vibrations signal prey. Its diet includes flies, moths, beetles, and other small arthropods subdued with venomous fangs. Adults may remain in the same web for long periods, repairing and expanding the retreat as it ages.
