Avondale spider
Delena cancerides

The adult Avondale spider is a large, flattened huntsman that lives under loose bark, logs, and sheltered spaces in Australian woodlands and nearby buildings. It hunts at night by sprinting down insects and other small arthropods, using its fangs and venom to subdue prey rather than building a capture web. During the day it presses flat against bark or into crevices, where its shape and colouring make it difficult to spot. This species is notable for its unusually social habits, with adults sometimes sharing retreats in loose colonies.
