Australian Trapdoor Spider
Moggridgea rainbowi

The adult Australian trapdoor spider is a small mygalomorph associated with the remnant native vegetation and soils of Kangaroo Island in South Australia. It spends most of its life in a silk-lined burrow, using a camouflaged door or covered entrance to ambush passing insects and other arthropods. Females are especially sedentary, while mature males may wander to find mates. A notable fact is that this species became a conservation concern because its restricted habitat was heavily affected by severe bushfires.
