Black Cobweb Spider
Steatoda capensis
Adult black cobweb spiders live in tangled, three-dimensional webs in sheltered outdoor and indoor sites, especially crevices, sheds, fences, and dry corners. They prey on insects and other small arthropods by sensing vibrations, throwing silk, and biting with venom-bearing fangs. This species is a close relative of widow spiders but is generally much less medically significant to people.
