Huhu
Prionoplus reticularis

The adult huhu beetle is a large New Zealand longhorn beetle often seen at night around forest edges, logs, and artificial lights. Adults are short-lived and mainly focused on dispersal and breeding, with flight used to move between suitable deadwood habitats. They have a hard beetle exoskeleton, long antennae, and strong mandibles that can deliver a noticeable defensive bite if handled. Although the adult is conspicuous, its life cycle still depends on old wood where the larvae develop.
