Longjawed Orb Weavers
Tetragnatha nitens
The adult Tetragnatha nitens is a long-jawed orb-weaver often found on waterside plants, marsh vegetation, and other humid habitats where small flying insects are common. It hunts from a delicate orb web and rushes in to bite prey caught in the silk. When resting, its long body and legs align with stems or blades, making it difficult to spot. Its notably elongated jaws are used in prey handling and in close interactions between adults.
