Jumping Spider
Opisthoncus nigrofemoratus

Adult Opisthoncus nigrofemoratus are active visual hunters found on foliage, tree trunks, and shrubs in eastern Australian habitats. They stalk flies, small moths, and other arthropods, then leap onto prey and subdue it with venomous fangs. Large forward-facing eyes give excellent depth perception for judging jumps. A silk dragline is often anchored before a leap, acting as a safety tether if the landing fails.
