Filmy Dome Spider
Neriene radiata
Adults build delicate dome-shaped sheet webs in grasses, hedgerows, woodland edges, and damp garden vegetation. They wait beneath or within the web and rush to bite small flies, midges, and other insects caught in the silk. The venom is used to subdue prey rather than for aggressive defense against large animals. A notable feature is the filmy, radiating web structure that gives the species its common name.
