Bornean Orangutan Infant
Pongo pygmaeus (infant)
Bornean orangutan infants live in lowland and peat-swamp rainforests, spending nearly all of their time clinging to their mother high in the canopy. They nurse for years while sampling soft fruit, leaves, and small insects as they learn what is safe to eat. Their main behaviour is gripping, climbing practice, and watching adult foraging routes. A notable fact is that orangutans have one of the longest childhoods of any non-human animal.
