Yellow-banded Poison Frog
Dendrobates leucomelas

The adult lives on the humid forest floor and low plants of northern South American tropical forests, especially around shaded, moist retreats. It is active by day, moving in quick hops while hunting ants, termites, mites, and other small arthropods. Its bold yellow bands warn predators of toxic skin alkaloids gathered from its wild diet. Males produce carrying calls from sheltered perches to defend space and attract mates.
