Green and Black Poison Dart Frog Tadpole
Dendrobates auratus (tadpole)
This aquatic stage lives in small pools of water after being carried there from forest-floor egg sites. It feeds on algae, detritus, and tiny organic particles while staying close to cover. Its tail provides quick bursts of swimming, but it has no jumping limbs yet. A notable part of its life history is parental transport, with an adult often carrying tadpoles to suitable water.
