Golden Hamster
Mesocricetus auratus

An adult golden hamster is a solitary, mostly nocturnal rodent of dry grasslands, field margins, and cultivated areas. It feeds on seeds, grains, roots, greens, and occasional insects, carrying finds in cheek pouches back to a branching burrow. Notably, the cheek pouches can stretch back toward the shoulders, letting a small animal transport a large food load while keeping its forepaws free.
