Dung Fly
Leptocera caenosa

The adult is a very small fly found around dung, manure heaps, compost, damp litter, and muddy places rich in decaying matter. It feeds on liquids and fine organic films, and it searches these same habitats for mates and egg-laying sites. Its best defence is quick takeoff and erratic short flight rather than strength. A notable trait of these small dung flies is their role in rapidly colonizing fresh waste, linking animal droppings to a wider community of decomposers and predators.
