Madeira Cockroach
Rhyparobia maderae

A large, nocturnal cockroach of warm, humid habitats, often found under bark, in leaf litter, and around decaying vegetation. Adults are omnivorous scavengers, eating fallen fruit, dead plant material, fungi, and occasional animal matter. They run quickly and have developed wings that can be used for short fluttering movement rather than long, controlled flight. Females retain the egg case internally, giving birth to active young nymphs instead of leaving exposed eggs.
