Black earwig
Chelisoches morio

The adult black earwig is a glossy dark earwig found in warm Indo-Pacific habitats, especially coconut palms, banana plants, bark crevices, and leaf litter. It is mostly nocturnal and omnivorous but is well known as a predator of caterpillars, scale insects, and other small invertebrates. Adults use strong mandibles and curved rear forceps for seizing prey, defense, and courtship interactions. Females guard eggs and young, a notable level of parental care for an insect.
