Golden Lion Tamarin
Leontopithecus rosalia
The adult golden lion tamarin inhabits lowland Atlantic rainforest, traveling by day through the middle canopy and sleeping in tree cavities at night. It is an agile climber and leaper, using long fingers to probe bark, bromeliads, and crevices for insects while also eating fruit, nectar, and small vertebrates. Adults defend space with sharp calls, scent marking, and quick evasive movement rather than brute strength. A notable fact is that this endangered primate has a vivid orange-gold coat and a lion-like facial mane.
