Gyrfalcon
Falco rusticolus

The adult gyrfalcon is a large falcon of Arctic tundra, sea cliffs, open mountains, and northern coasts. It hunts mostly birds such as ptarmigan, waterfowl, and seabirds, using powerful flight, fast pursuit, and talon strikes rather than dense-cover ambush. Its color varies from dark gray to very pale white, helping it blend with northern rock, snow, and sky. A notable fact is that it is the largest falcon in the world and can remain in high Arctic regions through harsh winters.
