Komodo Dragon Hatchling
Varanus komodoensis (hatchling)

Komodo dragon hatchlings emerge in dry island forests and quickly climb into trees to avoid larger predators, including adult dragons. They are alert, agile hunters that take insects, small lizards, and eggs among branches and leaf litter. Their banded pattern helps break up their outline in dappled light. A notable survival tactic is spending much of early life above ground where heavy adults cannot easily follow.
