Philippine Sailfin Lizard
Hydrosaurus pustulatus
An adult Philippine sailfin lizard lives around rivers, coastal swamps, mangroves, and lowland forest waterways in the Philippines. It is omnivorous, feeding on leaves, flowers, fruit, insects, snails, crustaceans, and other small animals. Adults are powerful swimmers and can sprint bipedally across the water surface for short distances. Mature males develop an impressive sail-like crest on the back and tail used in display and recognition.
