Crocodile Monitor
Varanus salvadorii

An adult crocodile monitor is a large arboreal predator of New Guinea’s tropical forests, often moving through trunks and canopy limbs with surprising agility. It eats birds, eggs, small mammals, reptiles, and carrion, using sharp claws for climbing and powerful jaws for seizing prey. Adults may hiss, gape, and lash the tail when cornered. This species is famous for its extremely long tail, which can make up much of its total body length.
