Small White
Pieris rapae

The adult is a common butterfly of gardens, farmland, meadows, and roadside vegetation, often seen visiting flowers for nectar. It flies with a light, fluttering path and searches for brassica plants on which to lay eggs. Adults feed through a coiled proboscis rather than chewing, so they rely mainly on flight to escape danger. Its pale wings with dark tips and spots make it one of the most familiar butterflies across much of Europe, Asia, and introduced regions elsewhere.
