Handsome Trig
Phyllopalpus pulchellus
The adult Handsome Trig is a very small, brightly marked cricket of shrubby fields, weedy edges, and open woodland margins in eastern North America. It browses on plant material and other soft organic food, using quick jumps and cover in vegetation to avoid predators. Males are notable for their loud, continuous trilling song, produced by rubbing specialized wing surfaces together. Its vivid red-orange head and dark body make it one of the more recognizable tiny trigs despite its small size.
