Red Thread-gilled Worm
Cirriformia tentaculata

The adult inhabits muddy sand and sheltered seabeds, living with most of its body concealed in a sediment tube. It feeds by spreading long red thread-like tentacles across the surface to collect organic debris. When disturbed, it rapidly withdraws into its burrow and relies on concealment rather than pursuit. Its conspicuous red filaments function in both feeding and gas exchange, giving the animal its common name.
