Resplendent Quetzal
Pharomachrus mocinno

The adult resplendent quetzal lives in humid cloud forests from southern Mexico through Central America, usually staying high in the canopy. It feeds mainly on fruit, especially wild avocados and other laurels, but also takes insects, frogs, and small lizards. Adults fly between perches with quick, direct movements and use calls and displays during breeding. Males are famous for their shimmering green plumage and extremely long upper tail coverts, which stream behind them in flight.
