Washerwoman
Anoplognathus porosus

The adult Washerwoman is a Christmas beetle found in eastern Australia, often emerging in warm months and flying at dusk or around lights. It feeds on eucalyptus and other foliage, chewing leaves with sturdy mouthparts. Its hard wing covers protect the delicate flight wings beneath, while its flight lets it disperse between trees and breeding sites. Like other scarab beetles, it spends only part of its life above ground before laying eggs back into soil.
