Humpback Whale
Megaptera novaeangliae

An adult humpback whale ranges through oceans worldwide, migrating between polar feeding grounds and warmer breeding waters. It feeds mainly on krill and small schooling fish, often lunging with its huge mouth open and filtering prey through baleen. Adults are famous for long, complex songs and for dramatic surface displays such as breaching, flipper slapping, and tail slapping. Its long pectoral fins are among the largest appendages of any whale.
