Goldenrod Bunch Gall Midge
Rhopalomyia solidaginis
The adult is a tiny, delicate fly found around goldenrod stands in fields, roadsides, and open meadows. It is short-lived, flying to mate and lay eggs on young goldenrod growth rather than feeding heavily as an adult. Its life cycle is tightly tied to its host plant, and the larva’s gall often reveals the species’ presence more clearly than the adult fly itself.
