Aspen Leaf Beetle
Chrysomela crotchi
The adult beetle lives on aspens and nearby poplars, where it feeds on leaves and searches for mates. It can crawl over foliage, drop away from danger, or fly short distances when disturbed. Its hard wing covers protect the delicate flight wings underneath, while defensive secretions help deter predators. A notable fact is that both feeding and reproduction are closely tied to young, tender aspen growth.
