Ectopsocid
Ectopsocus briggsi
An adult ectopsocid is a minute barklouse that lives on bark, foliage, and stored plant material in mild, damp places. It feeds mainly on fungal spores, algae, lichens, and fine organic debris rather than biting animals or plants. When disturbed, it runs rapidly and may make short fluttering flights with clear wings held roof-like at rest. By grazing surface growths, it acts as a tiny cleaner in the bark and leaf microhabitat.
