American Redstart
Setophaga ruticilla

The adult American Redstart is a small migratory warbler of deciduous forests, wooded edges, and tropical wintering habitats. It actively hunts insects by hopping, hovering, sallying into the air, and flashing its tail and wing patches to flush prey from foliage. Adults eat mostly insects and spiders, with occasional small fruits during migration or winter. A notable fact is the striking color difference between mature black-and-orange males and grayish females or young males with yellow-orange patches.
