Surinam Cockroach
Pycnoscelus surinamensis

The adult Surinam cockroach is a soil-dwelling tropical cockroach often found in mulch, compost, potted plants, and warm greenhouse beds. It is mainly nocturnal, feeding on decaying organic matter and sometimes nibbling living roots. Its flattened, tough body helps it push through soil and hide under debris when threatened. A notable fact is that many populations reproduce by parthenogenesis, allowing females to found new colonies without males.
