Doubleband surgeonfish
Acanthurus tennentii

The adult Doubleband surgeonfish inhabits coral and rocky reefs across the Indian Ocean, often grazing algae from reef surfaces during the day. It is an agile, laterally compressed swimmer that patrols reef slopes and lagoon areas rather than chasing animal prey. The species is recognized by the two dark bands behind the gill region and by the sharp scalpel-like spine on each side of the tail base. Those tail spines can deliver painful slashes when the fish is handled or threatened.
