Common Raccoon Dog
Nyctereutes procyonoides

The common raccoon dog is a small canid of forests, wetlands, farmland edges, and scrubby habitats across East Asia, with introduced populations in parts of Europe. It is mostly nocturnal and omnivorous, feeding on insects, frogs, rodents, birds, eggs, carrion, fruit, and roots while searching quietly through cover. When threatened, it may growl, bite, hide in dense vegetation or a den, and sometimes play dead. It is notable as the only canid known to enter prolonged winter torpor in colder parts of its range.
