Southern Brown Bandicoot
Isoodon obesulus

The Southern Brown Bandicoot lives in dense heath, scrub, woodland edges, and grassy understorey across parts of southern Australia. It is mostly nocturnal, digging small conical holes while searching for insects, worms, fungi, seeds, and other plant material. When threatened, it relies on cover, quick dashes, and its strong foreclaws for escape or defence. This species plays an important ecological role by turning soil and spreading fungal spores as it forages.
