South American Tapir
Tapirus terrestris

The adult South American tapir is a large forest herbivore found in tropical forests, wetlands, and river corridors across much of South America. It feeds on leaves, shoots, aquatic plants, and fruit, often moving at dusk or night along well-used trails. Adults are strong swimmers and may enter water to cool down, feed, or escape danger. By swallowing fruit and passing seeds through the forest, it acts as an important seed disperser.
