Red-eyed Treefrog
Agalychnis callidryas
This nocturnal treefrog lives in humid lowland rainforest vegetation, especially around ponds and slow water. It eats insects and other small arthropods, grabbing prey with a rapid sticky-tongue strike from leaves and branches. By day it rests flattened against foliage, hiding its bright colors until disturbed. Its red eyes, orange feet, and blue-and-yellow sides can flash suddenly to startle predators, and males call from vegetation during the breeding season.
