King Penguin
Aptenodytes patagonicus

Adult king penguins breed on subantarctic islands and forage through the cold waters of the Southern Ocean. They pursue lanternfish, other small fish, and squid with powerful flipper strokes, making deep dives that can exceed 200 meters. On land they walk upright through crowded colonies and defend space with pecks, calls, and body shoves. Unlike many birds, they build no nest, instead balancing the single egg on their feet beneath a warm brood pouch.
