Green Shield Bug
Palomena prasina

The adult green shield bug is common in gardens, hedgerows, meadows, and woodland margins across much of Europe. It feeds mainly on plant sap, fruits, and seeds, using its piercing mouthparts rather than hunting prey. Adults are shield-shaped, leaf-green through summer, and able to fly between host plants when disturbed. A notable defense is the release of strong-smelling chemicals from scent glands, which makes many predators drop or avoid it.
