Royal Penguin
Eudyptes schlegeli

The adult royal penguin is a crested penguin of the subantarctic, breeding almost entirely on Macquarie Island and foraging in surrounding Southern Ocean waters. It pursues krill, squid, and small fish with powerful underwater strokes from its flipper-like wings. On land it is social and noisy, using braying calls, displays, pecks, and shoves in crowded colonies. A notable feature is its pale face and yellow-orange crest, which help distinguish it from closely related crested penguins.
