Red King Crab
Paralithodes camtschaticus

Adult red king crabs inhabit cold North Pacific and Bering Sea seafloors, ranging from coastal shallows to deeper offshore grounds. They are omnivorous bottom-feeders, taking clams, worms, brittle stars, algae, carrion, and other benthic foods. A heavy spiny shell and powerful claws make adults difficult prey and effective competitors. Females brood large masses of eggs under the abdomen before the larvae hatch into the plankton.
