Common Goldeneye
Bucephala clangula

An adult Common Goldeneye inhabits boreal lakes and rivers in the breeding season and often winters on coastal bays and large open waters. It dives beneath the surface to catch mollusks, crustaceans, aquatic insects, and small fish. Strong, rapid flight carries it between waterways, and the wings can make a distinctive whistling sound in the air. A notable cavity-nesting duck, it often uses tree holes or nest boxes near water.
