Domesticated Guinea Pig
Cavia porcellus

Adult domesticated guinea pigs are social herbivorous rodents kept worldwide in homes, farms, and laboratories, with ancestors from the grasslands and scrub of the Andes. They graze on grasses, hay, leafy greens, and other plant material, using ever-growing incisors to gnaw fibrous food. Adults rely on alertness, hiding, short dashes, teeth chattering, and a wide range of squeaks and whistles rather than aggression. A notable fact is that they cannot synthesize enough vitamin C on their own, so they need it supplied in the diet.
