Dobsonfly
Corydalus cornutus

Adult dobsonflies are large, soft-bodied insects usually found near streams, rivers, and lakes, often coming to lights at night. They live only a short time as adults and focus mainly on dispersal and mating rather than feeding. Males have spectacular sickle-shaped mandibles used in contests and courtship, while females have shorter jaws capable of a stronger defensive bite. Their broad wings fold rooflike over the body when resting, and their fluttering flight carries them along wooded waterways.
