Pinecone Lizard
Tiliqua rugosa

The adult pinecone lizard lives in dry Australian grassland, mallee, scrub, and open woodland, often sheltering beneath vegetation or debris. It moves deliberately while feeding on flowers, fruits, leaves, carrion, and invertebrates. Its thick body and rough overlapping scales resemble a pinecone and make it difficult for many predators to handle. Adults form long-term pair bonds, an unusual trait among lizards.
