Russian Sturgeon Larva
Acipenser gueldenstaedtii (larva)

Newly hatched larvae drift and shelter among gravel in rivers flowing toward the Black, Caspian, and Azov sea basins. They initially rely on their yolk reserve before beginning to pick tiny invertebrates from the riverbed. The young fish have a pointed tail and are vulnerable to fish and aquatic insects. Their early life in flowing freshwater is very different from the wider-ranging adult stage.
