Great Black Hawk
Buteogallus urubitinga

The Great Black Hawk lives in tropical lowland forests, mangroves, swamps, and wooded river margins across Central and South America. It hunts from perches or while soaring, taking reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, birds, fish, and large invertebrates. Powerful talons and a hooked bill let it seize prey both on the ground and in shallow water. Adults are mostly black and show a broad white band across the tail in flight.
