Swallow-tailed Kite
Elanoides forficatus
The adult swallow-tailed kite hunts over forest edges, wetlands, rivers, and open clearings across the Americas. It captures large insects in flight and also takes small reptiles, amphibians, and nestling birds with its talons. Its exceptionally long, forked tail acts like a rudder, allowing rapid turns and graceful aerial maneuvering.
