Striped Millipede

Ommatoiulus sabulosus

Striped Millipede

Adults inhabit leaf litter, grassland edges, heaths, and open woodland, especially where the ground stays humid. They spend much of the day concealed under debris and emerge to eat dead leaves, rotting wood, and other decomposing vegetation. Their many legs provide steady movement rather than speed across the forest floor. When threatened, the striped body coils up and defensive glands release an irritating chemical secretion.
