Hawaiian Goose
Branta sandvicensis

The Hawaiian Goose, or nēnē, lives in volcanic slopes, grasslands, shrublands, and sometimes developed landscapes across the Hawaiian Islands. It feeds mainly by grazing on grasses and browsing leaves, seeds, berries, and flowers. Adults are strong walkers with reduced webbing between their toes, an adaptation for moving over rough lava terrain. This endangered goose is Hawaii's state bird and is the world's rarest goose species.
